A jig in construction is a plate, a structure, or a box made of metal or in some cases non-metal with provisions for handling components in identical positions one after another while guiding the tool into incorrect positions according to drawings, specifications, and operation layouts.
A fixture holds and locates a workpiece during an inspection or manufacturing process. It does not guide the tool.
It comprises a special standard or specially designed device that clamps on the machine and holds the work in place. By using gauges or manually adjusting the tools on the work surface, the required positions can be set.
